Indian Sunset
Sun that shines, Winds that blow,
maize, peyote, and buffalo;
bow and arrow, hunting knife,
a happy simple way of life.
Land Grab! Gold Rush!
the things people did to us.
Blanket trade, small pox,
furs for guns with faulty locks.
Poison wells, massacres,
no more game for trapping furs;
no more maize, no more meat,
no-where food for us to eat.
Pony soldiers, wagon trains,
iron horse and other pains;
Ghost Dance failed, white man lied,
all land taken, hope has died.
Buffalo extinct, lodges burned,
Christ has not returned;
where to go ... what to do,
Sun that shone, winds that blew.
